Sample Route 3
St Jean-en-Royans – St Nazaire – Pont-en-Royans – St Jean-en-Royans
Ride Time: At your leisure
Distance: 25kms
Terrain: Flat with a few lumps and bumps
Altitude: Staying at 250metres
A wonderful ride to kick start your cycling holiday and to give you a real feel for this spectacular region. The road from St Jean-en-Royans to St Nazaire is flatish and generally quiet with views of the magnificent Vercors as the backdrop. As you sweep into St Nazaire and the chance for a coffee stop the dramatic aqueduct built in 1876 appears on your right and is definitely worth another visit, particularly the boat trip up the Isere river. A little further on as you cross the Isere river the spectacular valley opens upon either side before the 10km flat run through a very quiet road dotted with old stone houses, walnut tress and vegetable gardens. A gentle hill followed by an exhilarating descent leads to Pont-en-Royans which sits under the sensational vertical sides of the Vercors with the old riverside houses looking as if they are about to fall into the Bourne river. Time for coffee or lunch before the final 10kms home to St Jean-en-Royans.
